The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

As any major honors show nears, you'll find an outcry for introducing fresh award types to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would board games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent above others. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types actually cover numerous genres, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything during that awards season
  • A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Just some puzzle games barely qualified for niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges well-known building titles competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
